On the 13th of May, an eXtraordinary event unfolded at the Toyota Stadium as two of our UXi International Rugby Institute teams took centre stage. The UXi Cheetahs Institute of Excellence (CIE) and UXi Griquas Rugby Institute (GRI) faced off in an exhilarating match, setting the tone for the Toyota Cheetahs and Emirates Lions Currie Cup game later that day.
After weeks of intense preparation, both Institutes eagerly anticipated this clash. Our student-athletes embraced the moment, channelling their nerves into pure enjoyment. They found themselves sitting in the professional changerooms, running through the iconic Cheetahs tunnel—a tunnel run through by countless rugby legends—and stepping onto the Toyota Stadium field, greeted by the resounding cheers of hundreds of supporters. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that few can fully describe—the sight of these young players gracing one of the grandest stages in South African rugby.
Filled with excitement, both the CIE and GRI teams showcased their game plan, hard work, and unwavering passion. In a hard-fought and physically demanding contest, CIE emerged victorious over GRI, with a commanding score of 54-05. After the game, the student-athletes expressed that they were grateful for the comprehensive preparation provided by UXi Sport and its coaches, and they are eager to continue their journeys to grow as rugby players and strive to become professional athletes.
The echoes of this special occasion will resonate within the hearts of these aspiring athletes, serving as a powerful reminder of their potential and the heights they can reach with unwavering dedication. We commend both teams for their remarkable performances and extend our congratulations to the CIE for their well-deserved victory. Together, they have etched their names in the history of UXi Sport, paving the way for an even brighter future. It truly was a day to remember for our students-athletes—an unforgettable eXperience and an eXceptional opportunity!
